Dr Theo Tryfonas

Theo Tryfonas is a Reader in Smart Cities with a background in cyber security, systems engineering and software development. His research expertise includes secure and resilient operation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, privacy in mobile computing, energy efficient deployments of wireless sensor networks and open data architectures for smart buildings/infrastructure. He is currently co-investigator of projects FLOURISH (£5.5m InnovateUK, cyber security and trust certification of connected autonomous vehicles) and REPLICATE (€25m EU H2020 Lighthouse Project on integrated smart energy and mobility systems). He is also academic lead for the deployment of an Urban Observatory in Bristol as part of the UK Collaboratorium for Research in Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC). He is an associate member of the All-Party Parliament Group Smart Cities and an accredited expert of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). In the past, he worked as a consultant security engineer on critical infrastructure projects such as resilience of public transport of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. He has also worked as manager in charge of the development of safety systems for maritime transportation and port security.
