Thomas Kranig was born 1954 in Munich. He studied law at the Universities of Munich and Wuerzburg. In 1984, he started his career at the Traffic Motorway Directorate of Southern Bavaria in Munich. From 1985 till 1992, he was working at the Administrative District Office of Aschaffenburg. At first, he was head of the department on Public Safety and Security. Afterwards, he was leading the department on Administrative Construction Law. Starting in 1992 until 1995 he was the executive secretary of a private media company. From 1995 until 1997 he was head of the department with regard to Infrastructure Planning and Developing. In 1997 he was appointed as a judge with the Administrative Court in Ansbach. For seven years, he was the press spokesmen and he stayed with the court until 2010. During this time, he obtained a master's degree with regard to Mediation at the University of Hagen. In 2011, Thomas Kranig was appointed as the President of the Bavarian State Authority on Data Protection for the Private Sector.
