HSE (Health and Safety Executive)
Martin Temple is an experienced non-executive director, having served on the boards of a wide range of companies, public sector and charity organisations. After nearly 30 years in industry he was latterly a vice president in Avesta Sheffield AB, a major producer of stainless steel. He became Director General of EEF in 1999 and was the manufacturing organisation’s Chairman from 2008 until March 2016. He was Chairman of The 600 Group plc until 2011, and has also been the Chairman of the Council of European Employers for the Metal, Engineering and Technology-based industries. Martin also previously served as Chairman of the Design Council, and was on the council of the University of Warwick and served as Chairman of the advisory board of Warwick Business School. Martin led an independent triennial review of the Health and Safety Executive in 2014. He was previously also a board member of the Technology Catapult programme, and chaired a programme to clarify and streamline the nature of UK Government support to small businesses. Martin became Chair of HSE in May 2016. He is also currently a non-executive director of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. Martin is also married with two children.
